Five short adventures
Choose guided practice or an untimed five-question challenge. Bluey and Bingo guide two addition games: Together makes… combines two groups of apples; Picnic packers collects two groups of toys. Sound detectives matches recorded sounds to letters, Little word trail invites decoding and blending, and Word builders spells a spoken CVC word by tapping letters in order.
Choose the level
Level 1: addition totals up to 10, the default.
Level 2: totals up to 20.
Level 3: totals up to 30.
Levels 2 and 3 are optional shared activities, not expectations for a particular age. A grown-up can select any level. Objects stay still while counting and are grouped in rows of five. Count with me, Show me, and combining helpers are always available. Changing a level starts a fresh round without taking away rewards.
Reading without picture guessing
Word Trail keeps the picture and whole-word audio hidden until an attempt or explicit help request. Tap each letter for its sound, then use Blend with me to hear the sounds in order followed by the whole word. “I tried reading it” reveals the picture; “By myself” and “With help” are self-reported notes. The game never records, listens, or assesses spoken reading.
Word Builders is a listening and spelling activity: it speaks the target word before letters are placed, but hides the picture until the word is built. No dragging is required.
Sounds, names and blending
Sixteen pure phoneme recordings are bundled locally from Phonicademy, under its Audio License v2.0. Phonics sounds: Phonicademy (phonicademy.com). Letter highlighting follows actual playback. Phoneme clips play sequentially, then a device voice says the whole word; this is segmented blending, not a recorded continuous blend.
The source’s grapheme and phoneme labels, files, and browser playback were checked. Audio was not independently listened to during this review. Try the sounds together first. Isolated letters are never passed to ordinary speech synthesis as phonemes. Letter names are separately labelled.
Voice, mute and motion
After a play interaction, instructions and whole words use an available browser-reported on-device US English voice. If none is available, a grown-up can read the displayed instructions and word prompts. No remote speech fallback is used. Use Sound off, Repeat, or Still at any time; the device’s reduced-motion preference is also respected. Narration is cancelled on navigation or when new audio begins.
Stars for effort
Each completed question earns a star, including when help or another try was needed. Every five-question round earns a sticker and shows a short summary. Rewards are never removed after a mistake. Guided practice is counted as supported practice. Challenges distinguish first answers without help, answers using helpers, and answers after another try. Self-reported reading attempts are kept separate from checked tap answers. These are informal practice notes, not educational assessments.
Only aggregate star, round, independent, helped, retry and reading-attempt counts plus collected stickers are saved in this browser. No names, individual answers or timestamps are stored. If storage is unavailable, play continues with rewards in memory for that visit. Grown-ups can clear rewards in the games or below. Nothing syncs across devices.
Chess, one move at a time
The existing Chess Garden is unchanged. Its local two-player board uses chess.js 1.4.0 with legal move checking, check, checkmate, stalemate, promotion, castling, and en passant. Undo and reset are always available.
